Allowances are given to meet the needs of employees like HRA, increase in cost of living, transportation facilitates etc. Accordingly these costs vary from place to place depending upon the demography and living standards which is decided by the pay commission.
House Rent Allowance(HRA)
As we know that all employees are provided with House Rent Allowance (HRA) to meet their house rental needs. House rent allowance varies according to the city and is classified into 3 categories. HRA is given as per the class of city viz, X, Y and Z and accordingly employees are paid a minimum of Rs. 5400/- pm, Rs. 3600/- pm and Rs.1800/- pm respectively. The percentage of allowance is given below:
@ 24% of Basic pay for X category of cities
@ 16% of Basic Pay for Y category of cities
@ 8% of Basic Pay for Z category of cities
Dearness Allowance (DA)
Dearness allowance or DA is paid by the government to public sector employees as well as pensioners as the cost-of-living allowance to cushion them from rising prices. DA is calculated according to the employees’ basic salary based on the respective pay scale. This revised from time to time twice an year by the government.
Transport Allowance (TA)
Transport Allowance is a type of allowance offered to employees of a company to compensate for their travel from residence to and from respective workplace location. In general, conveyance allowance is paid by an employer only if the there is no transportation provided by the employees. The rate of transport allowance per month various according to the place you are living in as mentioned below:
