Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a written exam conducted by Indian Air Force twice in February and August/September, respectively, to select Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). The written exam is followed by Air Force Selection Board Interview for shortlisted candidates.

AFCAT Written Exam preparation 

AFCAT is a gateway for all young aspirants both male and female candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force for both Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission in Ground Duties for both Technical and Non-Technical roles.

Selection is based on the performance in the online exam and Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview. If anyone opts for Ground Duty (Technical) branches then they are required to appear in both AFCAT and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).

Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Maths and Physics. They must also hold a graduation degree in any discipline/BE/BTech/cleared section A and B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with 60 per cent

Ground Duty Technical Branch

Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics)

Passed Class 12 with 60  per cent each in Physics and Mathematics and four years degree in Engineering/Technology

Or

Cleared Sections A and B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60 per cent in disciplines specified by the examination authority.

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical)

Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60 per cent in Physics and Mathematics and degree/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology. Or

Cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with minimum 60 per cent or equivalent in certain disciplines specified by IAF.

Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches

The branch-wise educational qualification for AFCAT is given below.

Flying Branch: Candidates must have passed Class 12 with 60% in Maths and Physics and graduated in any discipline/BE/BTech/Cleared section A and B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60%.

Ground Duty (Technical) Branch

Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) (AE (L))

Candidates must have completed Class 12 with 60% in Physics and Mathematics and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology from recognised university. Or,

Cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60%

Candidates must have scored a minimum of 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and Graduation with a minimum of three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

In AFCAT also there is no limit on the number of attempts one can make. However, your degree must be complete at the time of course commencement. In AFCAT also the age limit for different posts differs.

Age limit: The age limits prescribed for the exam are different for different branches. The table below contains the age limit for different branches.

Candidates should be between 20 and 24 years. The upper age limit for candidates having a Commercial Pilot License is relaxed up to 26 years

Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch

The age of candidates should be between 20 and 26 years

AFCAT is conducted in online mode and only in English language

Ans12. 

Negative marking is applicable for every wrong marked answer. 

Candidates will receive three marks for each correct answer while one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer only for technical.

Ans13.

Step 1: Appearing for AFCAT 2021 (Written Test): AFCAT is a written exam which is conducted by IAF. The exam consists of objective type questions which candidates have to complete within 2 hours.

Step 2: Interview Round (AFSB interview): AFSB test is conducted only for the qualified candidates of the online exam. Only such candidates can select the interview date and venue.

Step 3: Medical Examination: A medical examination is conducted by the conducting body of AFACT  to examine the physical and medical health of the candidate.

Step 4: Preparation of the All India Final Merit List

The final merit list will be prepared by the IAF on the basis of the overall performance of the exam. The following factors are considered when preparing the merit list.

  • AFCAT Score of the candidate
  • Performance of the candidate in AFSB Interview

Ans14.

There is no sectional AFCAT cut off in AFCAT exam. The total marks of AFCAT exam are 300, out of which you have to score above the cutoff marks.

Ans15.  

After clearing the written test in, AFSB test is conducted only for the qualified candidates of the online exam. Only such candidates can select the interview date and venue.
